Traveling a significantly long distance to another continent or across the country can sometimes be uncomfortable – regardless of how seasoned in flying you are. When you’re planning a vacation or trip with your friends or family, the further the destination, the longer the flight. This is an obvious observation, but when you do get on the plane, you know the flight will be worth it once you arrive at the destination.
Here are some tips on how to manage a longer flight when vacationing:
Plan Your Flight a Head of Time
Planning your flight for maximum comfortability is extremely important, especially if you’re taking an international flight to another country where you’ll be vacationing. Choose the right seat that you feel comfortable with. If you enjoy the window seat more, then pick that seat. If you’re looking to have more leg room, then the aisle seat might be the better option for a long flight.
Another thing to think about is upgrading your seat to first class/business class. If one of your top priorities is space, silence, and comfortability, then spending the money to upgrade might be the option for you.
Adjust to the Time Zone
If you know that you will have to deal with a significant time difference when you land in your new destination, we highly recommend that you begin preparing your body ahead of time. This may mean going to bed at a different time than you’re used to and eating at different times throughout the day. This way when you land, you can keep yourself going on the local schedule. Sometimes when you travel across the world to a different country, you need a day or two to adjust to the time change. This can cause some serious jetlag.
Keep Your Mind Active on the Long Flight
On longer flights, it’s important to pack some things that will help you to keep your mind busy. Bring a couple different books for yourself, listen to music/podcasts, watch movies, and bring crossword/sudoku puzzle books. These items can really help kill the time on a long distant flight across the country or overseas.
Wear Comfortable Clothing
Many people make the mistake of wearing uncomfortable clothing on a flight. Even if you’re hopping on a short flight, why choose to be in uncomfortable clothing. Unless you’re walking into a business meeting immediately after you hop off the plane, there is no need to dress up.
For longer flights, it’s encouraged to wear sweats and comfortable wear, so you won’t have to be uncomfortable when sitting on the plane.
